Greater Tacoma Convention Center

MODERN FACILITY IN THE HEART OF TACOMA

Tacoma, Washington, is often living in the shadow of its more well-known neighbor, Seattle, but in recent years it has come into its own as a popular destination. The waters of Puget Sound lap at its doorstep and glacier-clad Mount Rainier towers in the distance. A re-vitalized downtown has become an active, vibrant metropolis. For planners, the Greater Tacoma Convention Center is the centerpiece of the city’s meeting and event possibilities.

The floor-to-ceiling glass walls of the Convention Center create an open, light-filled atmosphere. “From the top floor of the Center, your view ranges from Mount Rainier in the east to the Puget Sound in the west,” says Nick Mann, group marketing manager for Travel Tacoma + Pierce County.

More than 119,000 square feet of space in 16 rooms make the facility one of the largest in Western Washington. Built for maximum flexibility, the facility will meet the needs of a business meeting for eight or a conference with 4,000 attendees.

With 9,000 square feet of glass-enclosed, naturally-lit pre-function space, the 50,000-square-foot Exhibition Hall can accommodate large conventions and trade shows. The room has a seated capacity of 4,250. The third-floor Ballroom can accommodate up to 1,200 guests in a theater-style setup and can be divided into as many as four smaller rooms.

The Center’s flexible space includes up to 14 separate breakout meeting rooms with a variety of dimensions. The facility regularly hosts board meetings, retreats, seminars and training sessions, and the room setups can be customized for every group. One of the Convention Center’s professional event coordinators will see to it that your group is provided with the service and amenities to make the event successful.

A complete array of audiovisual equipment and excellent technical support can meet any group’s needs from a straight-forward video projection to teleconferencing and show production. Full-service catering can offer whatever food and beverage service the gathering requires. Menu options range from break-time refreshments to a formal sit-down banquet. WiFi access is available throughout the facility.

Multi-day events will find several large hotels within a few blocks of the Center. The venue’s location in the middle of Tacoma’s compact downtown provides easy access to the bustling waterfront, cultural attractions, shopping, restaurants and nightlife. Many attractions are within walking distance, and the Tacoma Link offers free light rail service throughout the downtown area.

Six major museums, including the world-renowned Museum of Glass and spectacular LeMay – America’s Car Museum are among the nearby attractions. Visitors to the area will find an abundance of recreational and sightseeing options. Whether it is a Puget Sound kayak trip, a round of golf at one of the area’s fine courses or a day trip to Mount Rainier National Park, conference or event attendees will never be bored when they find themselves in Tacoma.

The Convention Center is easily reached from either I-5 northbound or southbound. Seattle is only thirty minutes away, and Portland, Oregon, is about two hours by car or train. A variety of public and private transportation options provide convenient accessto and from SeaTac International airport.
