New Event Center on Washington’s Long Beach Peninsula
Re-live your grade school days with a conference or event at the Chinook School Event Center. The 1924 schoolhouse in the fishing village of Chinook, Washington, was no longer serving students, and, over the years, it fell into disrepair. It has now been beautifully restored and revitalized as a community center and event venue. “This has been a true community collaboration, preserving the historic property while re-purposing it into a useful venue,” explains Andi Day, executive director of the Long Beach Visitors Bureau.
With a capacity of 299, the school’s gymnasium building can accommodate conferences, meetings or seminars. The large stage, complete with a professional sound system, makes the venue perfect for a presentation or performance. For banquets or receptions, your caterer can utilize the fully-equipped kitchen. The spacious grounds, formerly the school’s activity fields, support outdoor activities, and there is large parking area. Local catering is available.
All the attractions of the Long Beach Peninsula are only minutes away from the Event Center. The towns of Ilwaco, Seaview and Long Beach, with lodging, restaurants, shopping and entertainment, are about ten-minutes away by car. The trolley bus operated by the city of Long Beach can provide transportation to and from the nearby towns.
Groups holding events at the center will find an abundance of activities to entertain themselves. Chinook is a major salmon fishing and Dungeness crab port, and a day on a charter boat is a fun, team building experience. The extensive sand beaches entice beachcombers and the flat terrain of the peninsula is ideal for long bike rides. Fort Columbia and Cape Disappointment State Parks are ripe for exploration.
Located a scenic two and one half hours from Portland and three and one half hours from Seattle, the Long Beach Peninsula is an attractive location for a group getaway. The Chinook School Event Center offers another option for group meetings and activities.
