Western Montana
Montana’s “Glacier Country” stretches from the Rocky Mountains westward to Idaho. Tucked among the folds of this stunning outdoor lover’s paradise are cities with amenities rivaling bigger metropolises. Missoula, Kalispell and Whitefish each have attractive meeting facilities suitable for small to mid-size conferences. With affordable rates, no state sales tax and a spectacular setting, western Montana is a meeting destination like no other.
Missoula
Missoula’s youthful, active population revels in the area’s recreational opportunities, foodie culture and a lively arts and music scene. This small city boasts more than 50 restaurants, nine breweries, two wineries and three distilleries. Its historic downtown lures shoppers with locally-owned boutique stores.
Served by six airlines with direct flights from many hub cities, access to Missoula is easy. Local travel is simple too. Missoula’s compact downtown is very walkable, and the Mountain Line bus system is free.
MEET AND STAY
The Holiday Inn Downtown, overlooking the Clark Fork River and close to downtown, is an attractive conference center. Guests enjoy commanding river views from the Finn & Porter Restaurant, outdoor deck and many guest rooms.
Hilton Garden Inn resides midway between the airport and downtown, surrounded by shops and restaurants. Missoula’s largest conference hotel has two restaurants plus the Silver Creek Casino for entertainment.
University of Montana’s 56-acre campus contains a dedicated year-round conference center plus rentable space in other university buildings. In-house Montana Event Services coordinates private rental functions. In summer, on-campus dorm housing can host up to 750 people.
In the heart of Missoula, the open, terraced floor of the fully-renovated 1920s-era Wilma Theater allows flexible seating arrangements for meetings, presentations, banquets and social functions.
OUT AND ABOUT
Walk or bike along the Clark Fork River, explore Carus Park or hike the hillside trail overlooking the city. For team-building, solve riddles to escape at Big Sky Breakout, play games at Fort Missoula Regional Park’s sports fields or challenge the ziplining course at Snowbowl Ski Resort. Cultural activities abound here with art and history museums, and performing arts including theater, symphony, ballet and live music.
Kalispell
Located southwest of Glacier National Park, Kalispell is the business and residential center of Flathead Valley. The region offers everything needed for a successful meeting and is a convenient base for exploring western Montana.
MEET AND STAY
Best Western Plus Flathead Lake Inn & Suites is ideal for corporate retreats, weddings or reunions looking for an all-in-one facility. Kalispell’s Hilton Garden Inn has identical restaurants to its Missoula counterpart. This full-service conference hotel provides great program flexibility. You’ll find lodge-style décor and first-class services.
Kalispell’s Red Lion Hotel has the advantage of being downtown. Shops and restaurants are steps away. Red Lion’s meeting space is extremely flexible. The Grand Ballroom opens to a large pre-function area, adjoining an outdoor courtyard.
The Museum at Central School features northwest Montana history exhibits within a stately brick and stone schoolhouse built in 1894. The restored building offers two meeting rooms and a catering prep kitchen.
OUT AND ABOUT
Kalispell visitors enjoy history and art museums, shopping and dining. The great outdoors beckons with nearly unlimited recreation options. Hiking, biking, water sports on Flathead Lake, golf, river rafting, horseback riding and seasonal winter sports attract visitors.
Whitefish
The small town of Whitefish packs a big punch. This rollicking resort town has much to offer—quality accommodations, spacious meeting rooms, shopping, dining and entertainment on par with larger cities. It’s perfect for incentive trips and groups of up to 300.
MEET AND STAY
Montana’s only AAA Four Diamond property, The Lodge at Whitefish Lake is close to downtown and offers five food and beverage options, lakefront pool and a marina with boat rentals. Accommodations include luxurious guest rooms and suites, condominiums and vacation rental homes. A large ballroom, breakout rooms and the covered Lakeside Pavilion provide versatile event space. Located in downtown Whitefish, the Firebrand Hotel offers two meeting rooms and an outdoor rooftop patio.
Grouse Mountain Lodge accommodates groups with ease. With several restaurants, recreation and fitness facilities, and adjacent golf course, this is a great place to combine business with pleasure.
If your event requires an auditorium or performance venue, Whitefish Performing Arts Center fills the bill. This 472-seat theater with proscenium-style stage boasts state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems.
OUT AND ABOUT
Whitefish is renowned for recreation, nightlife and the arts. Glacier National Park is just 30 miles away. Whitefish Mountain Resort ski area and nearby lakes, rivers and forest offer outdoor activities. With more than 50 restaurants and bars, there are many choices for dining and live music.
