Team Up: Team Building Insights from a CVB Pro
Working with the CVB for a successful team building experience
Team building activities are an integral part of many retreats and conferences. A terrific way to boost the success of your organization is to choose an activity that takes group members away from the daily routine. “Retreat organizers often tell me that more valuable work gets done during play than at a traditional presentation,” explains Nan Devlin, tourism director for Visit Tillamook Coast. “Participants can relax, open up and see their co-workers in a different light. It can give participants a new perspective and that’s when creativity really starts to flow.”
Without a large conference center in the area, Devlin emphasizes to event organizers that she can help them develop a campus-style experience tailored to the needs of their group. She says the secret to a successful team building experience is to match the interests and abilities of the group members to the design of the activity. The objective is to create a scenario where the group is able to work together to achieve a goal or play together and have an out-of-the-ordinary experience.
