Discover Oregon’s Central Coast

Long, sandy Pacific Ocean beaches and wild rocky headlands provide the scenic backdrop for visitors to the central Oregon coast. Stretching from Lincoln City south to Florence, this area is often overlooked by meeting and event planners, yet it offers small-town hospitality, many fine venues and an unlimited supply of recreational opportunities.

A little more than an hour’s drive from either Eugene or Salem and just over two hours from Portland, the area is easily accessible. The region offers a convenient alternative for groups to combine business and leisure in a picturesque location. Taking your meeting or event away from the big city doesn’t mean you will be skimping on amenities. Your group will encounter a professional staff and full-service support at the first-rate facilities in the area.

The Towns

Winter storms often pound the shore while, in summer, the waves gently glide onto the sandy beach. No matter what the season, Lincoln City offers a scenic opportunity for any meeting, conference, retreat or special event.

Miles of smooth shoreline for kite flying and beach combing, several experienced charter operators offering deep sea fishing, and a wide variety of shopping and dining opportunities attract groups of all sizes to the area. For a fun change of pace, visitors can hunt for glass floats along the beach or blow their own in one of the local glass-blowing shops.

Newport’s historic Bayside area is packed with boutiques, art galleries and restaurants. The beaches around Newport entice visitors with a variety of experiences. Whether it is combing the sand for treasures, flying a kite or enjoying some of Oregon’s best surfing, the beaches beckon. Kayakers will find Yaquina Bay’s waterways ideal for exploring, while those seeking more adventure can take to the open waters on a sea kayak.

The Newport area offers a wide assortment of group activities for team building or simply relaxation. Rent a crab boat for an afternoon of crab fishing, or your group can arrange a private deep-sea fishing or whale-watching trip on one of Newport’s charter boats. For a more relaxed exploration of marine life, visitors will want to check out the Oregon Coast Aquarium or the Visitor Center at the Hatfield Marine Science Center.

The town of Yachats, with a variety of quaint shops and restaurants, is midway between Newport and Florence. The area has an abundance of group activities for post-conference fun. Whether it is beachcombing along the sandy stretches or exploring tidepools among the rocks, the coast at Yachats is ripe for exploration. Near Yachats, visitors can observe marine animals cavorting in their natural habitat at Sea Lion Caves.

The town of Florence, with its Historic Old Town nestled along the Siuslaw River, offers creative art galleries, eclectic shops, historic buildings and a variety of dining options. The Oregon Dunes National Recreation, just minutes from town, has a multitude of options for group activities.

Take a thrilling guided off-road tour over the shifting landscape of the terrain. Surf across the dunes of Sand Master Park, the world’s first sand board park. The venue offers lessons and provides equipment for an exciting afternoon of sand surfing. For an entertaining team building activity, conduct a sand sculpting competition to fuel your group’s competitive spirit. Participants can learn the art of building artistic sand creations from the park’s staff and divide into teams to build their masterpieces.
